Perfect, Tara - I'm glad you used mine as an example. It's good to see exactly how the replys are to go. I love the words you chose to represent my "Grandma Helen" story! Thank you! This is going to be so much fun!
Cherie - I ❤️ your grandmother post. We're the same age, and while I do have a bunch of grandneices and grandnephews, no grandkids yet. May is just around the corner and you have a fine role-model.
Congratulations on your anniversary, Tara! 🥳🥳🥳 I LOVE this 5-word reading party that you're hosting. How fun!
I'm Jenna and I write "Witchcraft & Metaphysics with Jenna Newell Hiott", which is all about ARCHETYPES & TAROT; RITUALS: ANCESTORS & OTHER BELOVED DEAD; and ALL THINGS MAGIC ON THE RELATIONAL PATH.
This gave me chills, Jackie! Just before he died, my uncle gave me a copy of Rovelli's book and I haven't read it yet. I'm going to bump that up to the top of my priority list now. Thank you so much!
Wow - love this synchronicity! I'm so sorry for your loss of your uncle. I'm glad to be a tiny nudge towards the book he gifted you before he died.
I think Carlo Rovelli bridges physics and metaphysics with a poetic heart. His work blows my mind and I can't stop turning the pages. I hope you enjoy reading it.
A big happy anniversary to Tara. I have been reading her newsletter since I joined Substack last fall. I write about books, literature, life, and how they are all connected with the stories of our lives.
I'm back. My 5 words after reading your linked post are: "sharing yourself with the world". Yes, I'm basically quoting you. I loved this post. I have so many different interests and three official jobs; I'm also pretty serious. So your post reminded me to write from my whole self, and yes, have fun. Thank you!
Happy anniversary Tara! Thanks for throwing a reading party.
I'm Jackie. I write Creative Seasoning: writing that scouts the winding trail FROM GRIEF TO CREATIVITY, seeks meaning and joy after loss.
I live in North Yorkshire, UK. This post tells my story of dancing with grief - how I found medicine in music and movement (and you can hit play and dance with me at the end if you like).
Jackie, I loved your piece! I feel the healing power of dance too. I used to be a dancer up until my mid twenties when I had my first kid. I’ve spent too many years not dancing. I’ve recently started to come back to it a little with Zumba classes. I always feel so much better when I dance — it truly is medicine. I hope you continue to find peace and relief from your loss.
Thank you for sharing this!
P.S. I love your laundry list of clean activities. I have also started to adopt similar habits — movement, writing, sleep, nature and connecting with loved ones are at the top of my list.
These workshops sound amazing. I’m going to have to look for something similar if such a thing exists over here. I’m in Hamilton, Canada (near Toronto). Enjoy your day! I’m off to Zumba. 💃
The classes I go to are Gabrielle Roth's 5rhythms, which are worldwide. You might find a local class here: https://www.5rhythms.com. If not, I hope you find another dance floor you love. Happy zumba-ing!
Tara, your initiative to foster this vibrant community of readers and writers is inspiring. Thank you for paving the way for connection and creativity, reminding us of the joy and discovery within our shared words and stories.
I started "The Spiritual Almanac" https://thespiritualalmanac.substack.com/ on January 1st this year. My publication is a year-round guide for a happier heart, brain, and soul based on the power of paying attention to ordinary beauty, natural wonders, and living life in rhythm with the seasons.
My love for history, philosophy, nature, and spirituality began at a young age. As I grew older, I realized the power of these subjects to transform and enrich our lives. After years of studying and practicing various spiritual traditions, I created The Spiritual Almanac to share my knowledge and experiences with others.
I look forward to discovering new publications here and a great connection for all of us!

Reply #1 - Hi John, I'm intrigued! After living in Arizona for 38 years, I have an appreciation for water that I didn't have in my younger days. I'm heading over to read one of your posts now and will come back with a 5 word response soon!

I'm very interested in reading more of your work and have subscribed. It's a scary topic but important info you are providing! Thanks, John, glad to meet you!

Hello all you beautiful writers, my name is Donna. I write The Bright Life, where I endeavour to help my wonderful readers, and myself, FIND YOUR INNER WISDOM, HAVE THE COURAGE TO FOLLOW IT. Lately I've been writing about different aspects of change, as well as fear and resistance (I promise I make it much more fun than it sounds!), I am also a sobriety advocate so share that story as well.
I feel that having enough physical energy to get through our day is the Holy Grail, this is an essay I wrote about that
I am a Dr. Tara Penry super-fan and consider myself blessed to call her a friend. I live just above her geographically but am in a different country (Canada) and it's on my bucket list for us to meet in person.
Hi Donna. I feel like "finding my inner wisdom and having the courage to follow it" is the perfect summary of my intentions for this period of my life. I'm excited to have been introduced to your Substack! Subscribing now and I'll be back with my five words. 💕
Donna! I just read the post you linked to, had a quick look around and The Bright Life, subscribed and received your welcome email, and my whole body feels suffused with warmth! What a beautiful energy you bring!
My five words are a direct quote from you (with one word removed so as not to make it six 😊): Get clear on your desire. I know that this is precisely what I need to do and I'll be reading your posts for more ideas on how to do it!
As I was reading the card you shared on Abundance, Wealth & Wisdom, an email dropped into my inbox detailing some unexpected earnings... The magic is working. Thank you!
I'm so looking forward to reading more of your words. 💕
Reply #2 - Donna, I've left comments on your post as well, and subscribed, but thank you! I loved your post - it was meant for me today! My five words (although your post is soooo much more): Stop watching the news, Sweetie!
This is my kind of party, Tara! Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you for hosting such a gorgeous gathering!
My Substack is called Oblivious Witness and I write REFLECTIONS ON A SMALL LIFE LIVED IN BIG PLACES. I grew up in a tiny town in rural Western Australia and I now live in Beijing, having previously put down roots in Japan, the UK, Israel and the Occupied Territories, Switzerland, France, Pakistan and Fiji. The lessons I'm learning these days mostly revolve around family, middlescent matrescence, sobriety, transitions, creativity and the concept of home.
One of my favourites from my own small Substack archive (five months in this gorgeous community and counting!) is actually one that garnered the least attention. It talks about a few of the things closest to my heart - my kids, creativity, sobriety and the gorgeousness of feeling it ALL. I hope you'll enjoy it.
That is not one of my five words but I started with it because this essay got me in the guts. I had a visceral feeling to the power of it. In one short essay, you drew upon every aspect of being human. I loved it.
Hi @michelle Neeling! I’ve just come back from reading your gorgeous publication KNOW THYSELF
culled, raw, gems, sparkled, gallery ✨
What a fantastic walk through and insight of your experience and uplifting support that helped you recognize what treasure you were standing on. Bravo !
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment, Crystal! I hope the post will encourage people to reflect on their own creative process and the times when they need a nudge to get out of their own way... Finding ways to silence the inner critics is an essential part of the process! Looking forward to reading some of your work too! x
I loved this essay. I was right there in the bath while your son painted your face. Saying YES is such a gift - to him and to you. It was a challenge to choose just five words!
Thanks so much for reading, Julie! Yes, I think the takeaway from that experience for me was in seeing just how much better things are for all of us when we say yes and fully embrace the moment, wherever that might take us, rather than worrying about what might happen later... It's not always easy to live in the moment but I'm trying to get better at it 😊. Thanks for taking the time to comment! 💕
Hi Michelle, Following you and I'll be reading your article. I've also travelled-lived in several different place. To date 18 relocations 10 countries incl. Switzerland, France, Russia. https://www.carermentor.com/ - I'm sensing there's lots we could noodle on. ;-)
You'll see I started a section called the 18/10 journal where I'll be sharing reflections on living and relocating to different places. If it appeals to you I'd appreciate your subscription. The main focus, as per my publication name, is a mission to support and advocate for caregivers, as well supporting my mentoring clients. I hope something resonates ;-)
Hi, Tara, glad to find you! And happy newsletter birthday.
I'm Priscilla, and I write about RESTORING KINSHIP WITH NATURE in the "Nature :: Spirit" podcast. 20 minutes listening, scripted essays (because autistic!).
I really like the most recent episode, "Trusting the Waters of Life," about hanging on when life throws the unexpected at us. Also about what it looks like when people try to control water—both the waters of the heart and the waters of the land. And maybe those two kinds of water are not so separate after all?
Thank you, Priscilla, and welcome! Nice to have you here. I think you will find several people here in these comments with common interests. I hope you have fun with your five words. :-)
Reply #1 - Hi Priscilla, I love the sound of your Substack. "Hanging on when life throws the unexpected at us" is something I can relate to! I am heading over to read your post now, and will return with 5 words soon.
Reply #2 - Loved it, Priscilla! Very wise words, and I want to check out your other posts as well. I've subscribed and look forward to reading what you write..
Hello Tara! Thank you for this great, supportive idea! Congratulations on your 1-year anniversary!
I am Cherie and I write "Just a Blink" - personal essays about the things I think about, including
THE PASSAGE OF TIME, AGING, HEALTH, MORTALITY, RETIREMENT, and LIFE TRANSITIONS.
https://justablink.substack.com/
I live in Flagstaff, Arizona and started my substack in November. My most popular post so far is the one about my husband's cardiac arrest: https://justablink.substack.com/p/cardiac-arrest. However, I think my favorite post so far is the one I wrote about my Grandma after I found out that I am a first time grandma-to-be: https://justablink.substack.com/p/grandma-helen
I am looking forward to reading and connecting with new writers!
Cherie, I'll use your post as an example of how this will look. Others are still welcome to follow your links and read also!
Perfect, Tara - I'm glad you used mine as an example. It's good to see exactly how the replys are to go. I love the words you chose to represent my "Grandma Helen" story! Thank you! This is going to be so much fun!
Reply 1 - Cherie, I'm eager to have a look at that grandmother post. On my way....
Reply 2 - Countdown, dumplings, don't weaken, May! ❤️
Cherie - I ❤️ your grandmother post. We're the same age, and while I do have a bunch of grandneices and grandnephews, no grandkids yet. May is just around the corner and you have a fine role-model.
grandmother: imagination, humor, stories, comfort
Thank you, Julie! I'm glad you liked it, and I love the words you chose. This is so much fun, isn't it?
(Definitely it is for me. I love that Julie's words are so much cozier and more grandmotherly than mine. Two readers are better than one.) ;-)
I love both sets of words, a good combination! I'm going to reach out to someone else new as well as soon as I finish my post for this week.
Wonderful. All are welcome!
Congratulations on your anniversary, Tara! 🥳🥳🥳 I LOVE this 5-word reading party that you're hosting. How fun!

https://witchcraftandmetaphysics.substack.com/
I just hit the 6-month mark on Substack and am utterly in love with this platform. My most popular posts so far are this one: https://witchcraftandmetaphysics.substack.com/p/the-way-of-the-stones which talks about the importance of relating with stones; and this one: https://witchcraftandmetaphysics.substack.com/p/what-is-this-thing-called-self-container which is definitely on the metaphysics side of things and explores the idea of the Self as a collective.
Can't wait to find new writers and start writing my 5 words! Thank you so much for hosting this, Tara! ❤️
Jenna - I'm keen to read your posts. I'll be back soon with 5 words!
The way of the stones ❤️ - memory keepers, songs, grief, wholeness.
Thank you so much, Jackie! I love this! ❤️❤️❤️
What is this thing called Self? ❤️ - body, consciousness, cosmic, collectives, relationship.
I really loved this post, Jenna! Thank you for writing it.
It made me think of Carlo Rovelli, in 'The Order of Time', where he distilled quantum physics down to relationship.
"We are relationship itself". Yes!
PS - this is a beautiful intro to Carlo Rovelli. He was interviewed on Desert Island Discs in 2017. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08wmmwn
Oooh, thank you so much for this!
Hey, Jenna, I read your post on Stones, which I super. loved! I will posting a five word poem on it. Thank you!
Death, living, memory, song, sun, moon.
Jenna, your post reminded me of a prayer I learned long ago. It’s addressed to Mother Earth and asking for forgiveness for stepping on her.

Thank you so much, Jenna.

My five words: Dancing, grief, renewal, spirit, dancing!
Thank you so much, Sal.
I love the repetition of dancing - it feels like your five words are dancing, looping, dancing, looping... Love it!
Ooo, four words about five words. Now the party is hopping!
I really feel it about dancing. It’s made a return in my life again as well.
Five words for you and Jackie both: Two dancing from the soul?
Ah, I love that. Yes! Sal - let's have a dance from our souls!
My friend shared this track with me the other day and I can't stop dancing to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfD-Y0eGpgo
Ah, those first guitar notes went straight to a calming place. (Maybe not a guitar - mandolin? stringed instrument?)
That's wonderful, Sal. I'm so happy to hear you're dancing again too. I hope it brings you great healing and joy. Here's to the dance floor!
I’m so glad I found you. Wonderful post. Your heart is on the page. 5 words: Energy, Movement, Grief, Love, Breakup.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed my post
Dancing heals mind and soul.
Thank you so much Serena! So glad to find another dancer.
It is so easy to spend too many years not dancing - glad you’ve found your way back too.
I’m off to a dance workshop today and will spend all afternoon on the dance floor - looking forward to its medicine.
Wishing you healing and joy from your favourite dance floors (and clean-living laundry lists).
These workshops sound amazing. I’m going to have to look for something similar if such a thing exists over here. I’m in Hamilton, Canada (near Toronto). Enjoy your day! I’m off to Zumba. 💃

Hi Victoria, nice to meet you. Zen (big z or little z) definitely comes in the tiniest moments.

Michelle thank you so much for your kind words! I look forward to seeing you in The Bright Life community❤
What a beautiful thing that you just read the card I pulled and opened your inbox to an unexpected message from the Universe!
Reply #1 - Hi Donna, I love the sound of "The Bright Life" and am heading over on your link now. Will be back with 5 words soon.
Reply #2 - Donna, I've left comments on your post as well, and subscribed, but thank you! I loved your post - it was meant for me today! My five words (although your post is soooo much more): Stop watching the news, Sweetie!
Oh, how that tickles me! 😂 💕
I love your five words Cherie, especially that you added Sweetie, one of my signature words, to the end! Thanks for checking out the post.

I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you here! Thank you, Tara! 💕
OK, you had me at sobriety! I'm heading right on over to your publication Michelle because us sober folks like to stick together.
Thanks, Donna! You might want to start with this one - the post about sobriety that started my whole Substack journey. 💕

I will definitely look forward to reading it!
Wow.
That is not one of my five words but I started with it because this essay got me in the guts. I had a visceral feeling to the power of it. In one short essay, you drew upon every aspect of being human. I loved it.
life, death, embrace, allow, opening
Thank you so much, Donna. It feels like magic to have your reading my words. 💕
Sounds fascinating and right up my alley! Can’t wait to read more from you !
Looking forward to reading some of your work too! x
💯
I loved this essay. I was right there in the bath while your son painted your face. Saying YES is such a gift - to him and to you. It was a challenge to choose just five words!
canvas face sobriety celebration creation
Thanks so much for reading, Julie! Yes, I think the takeaway from that experience for me was in seeing just how much better things are for all of us when we say yes and fully embrace the moment, wherever that might take us, rather than worrying about what might happen later... It's not always easy to live in the moment but I'm trying to get better at it 😊. Thanks for taking the time to comment! 💕
Hi Michelle, Following you and I'll be reading your article. I've also travelled-lived in several different place. To date 18 relocations 10 countries incl. Switzerland, France, Russia. https://www.carermentor.com/ - I'm sensing there's lots we could noodle on. ;-)
Oh wow! Checking out your page right now! 😊
I'm not sure I can use only 5 words for your article which opened up so many thoughts, broadened my canvas.
If I had to choose 5 - Wonder, social-pressure, grief, celebration, mindfulness
When I made a few notes I realised I was making paradoxes:
childlike wonder vs adult social pressures, grief loss vs love-living, connection/relationship vs separation, overlayed with/without alcohol

I look forward to having fun with reading and five words!
Thank you, Priscilla, and welcome! Nice to have you here. I think you will find several people here in these comments with common interests. I hope you have fun with your five words. :-)
