I hadn't thought about "frank" subscriptions, but you're right. Substack was wise to create a model that allowed for both frank and paid options. :-) You might enjoy Samuel Johnson's 1755 definition. I'd heard the word "franking" before, but didn't know its meaning. Now I can see how it relates to its use as candid, i.e,. free.
I guess we all have "frank" subscribers and paying ones.
